NFL Injuries To Be Aware Of

A.J. Green

Green is a big loss for the Bengals as he has been their best player for quite a few seasons. A.J. is no stranger to injuries, as he has been plagued by various throughout his career. Green is expected to miss a few weeks of the regular season with an ankle injury, which could certainly affect the Bengal’s start to the season. Expect the Bengals passing game to not be nearly as efficient while Green is out.

Julian Edelman

Edelman has been Tom Brady’s trusted receiver for a while now. With Gronkowski retired, Julian will be instrumental to the success of the Patriots offense this season. Julian should be ready to go week 1, but he does have a nagging thumb/hand injury. Edelman came back week 2 of the preseason, but recently had a scare when he came up shaking his hand after catching a pass in the Patriot’s preseason finale. Don’t be surprised if this injury pops up again.

Todd Gurley

Gurley’s injury has been amongst headlines for quite some time. Todd was diagnosed with an arthritic knee. The Rams have given every indication that they will not rely as much on Gurley as they did last season. The extent to which an arthritic knee affects Gurley’s play on the field is still uncertain. If Gurley is set back by the injury, the entire Ram’s offense will be set back as well.

Cam Newton

Cam is one of the most unique players in the NFL, and is a premier dual threat quarterback. Unfortunately, Cam had to undergo shoulder surgery in the offseason. Reports from the Carolina Panther’s camp claimed Newton looked well throwing, but it should be interesting to see whether his shoulder can hold up over the course of a season. Newton also had a foot injury in the preseason. Watch out for whether either of these injuries changes the Way the Panthers use Newton in the run game. 

Jarrad Davis

Davis isn’t near the level of talent of the four previous players mentioned, but he does play an important role for the Detroit Lions. Detroit already has one of, if not the very worst, linebacking core in the entire NFL. It will only hurt the lions more that the best of their mediocre linebackers is expected to miss a few weeks with a high ankle sprain. Look for the lions to run more nickel packages, as they will be forced to rely on rookie linebacker Jahlani Tavai more than they would like to at the start of the season.
